 {Our} RESPONSE & RESULTS

Through thoughtful connection, numerous conversations, and earnest listening Power to Act created and implemented a thoughtful RESPONSE. Together, with the generous support of our community, we valiantly met the basic physical needs of the women we serve locally and globally during the challenging time of COVID-19. ​

HOPE Handbags

We created 12 HOPE Handbags for each woman residing at the Durango Community Shelter and the Southwest Safehouse. This was a personal gift to ensure each woman felt loved and cherished in this difficult time. 

​Each handbag was filled with 11 thoughtful gifts for the women to enjoy during the Stay-at-Home order. Many gifts were purchased from local businesses in support of our community. The gifts included:

MEALS

Each Friday, for 6 consecutive weeks, Power to Act delivered a full course meal to the local domestic violence shelter. With the support of those who cooked and others who provide a catered dinner we delivered 72 meals. This was our way to support the staff as they tirelessly served a full shelter and demonstrate to the women residents there was a Community who Cares.    

A.C.T. RUN3.1

Power to Act hosted A CALL TO RUN3.1 on Saturday, May 9 - a social distance RUN to benefit women across the globe. The results were incredible!

• $1,267.54 was raised for
• 5 nonprofit organizations that serve vulnerable women in
• 3 nations across the globe.
• 56 race participants from
• 6 states across the nation 'ran' for a cause. 

We were so inspired by how our participants chose 'run' on Race Day.  There were,

• Husband + wife duos running 3.1 miles 
• Families of 6 enjoying a hike
• Teams of 7 biking 31 miles in the mountains
• Sisters walking 3.1 miles
• Individuals hiking with family pets
• Backpacking on the Colorado Trail 
• 31 mile bike rides along the California cost 
• Mom at 38 weeks pregnant + dad + sisters playing outside for 31 minutes 
• Some walked outside, others walked inside on the treadmill 
• 5k & 10k runs in neighborhoods
• Sisters + mom dancing ballet

The donations awarded to each organization contributed towards: 

• Creating 100s of masks so artisans in Cambodia could keep working + distribution of these masks to neighboring community members.
• Food for a week for 20+ families in India.
• Monthly salaries maintained for artisans on lock-down and unable to work in India.
• HOPE Handbags donated to women experiencing homelessness or domestic violence in SW Colorado.  

Collectively, we provided vital support for 100s of women and individuals across the globe.    

BOOK & DVD Drive 

With the Stay-at-Home order women at the domestic violence shelter were in need of things to do. On April 25 Power to Act hosted a Donation Drive gathering books and DVDs. A small group of thoughtful women donated dozens uplifting and encouraging books and DVDs for the women staying the shelter could enjoy.
